more than their fare share of victories, not always small, by the sound of it.... Small
Victories arrived big style via Manchester's Urban Foxx label,
to praise from all angles for their debit single "Holding On
Hopefully"/"Spare Parts" - deservedly so. It's hard to have a
glimpse of originality these days but their music has it. www.urbanfoxx.co.uk - the
single also has the support of the music fan heroes (Lamacq, Peel, XFM etc...) and
made the Big Issue single of the week with full marks. Their
debut gig will be at the Boobytrap Records Christmas Party on
20-Dec-002 at Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff (Small Victories will
be releasing a single for them in 003 and an LP, "The Liars Bible") full

| The
Friend - I could be making it up that the alternative media music lovers are
taking over the world but I'm not. Fuck it, these folks are about music, the love, the
obsession of it. These are by fans for fans that's why fans can relate to em. While money
things fall and fail just look at the rise of the unmonied... Rockfeedback *

| Feeder
Feever! If you haven't get tickets for Feeder's tour of
LaLaLand (Feb-07-003 to Mar-07-003) then hurry up because they are turning to
gold dust fast - see www.feederweb.com .
Their fourth album, "Comfort In Sound", went gold on release
(have you heard it?, it sounds heeuuge!) in October and only confirms the continual ascent
they have been in over the turn of the century. Opening song, "Just The
Way I'm Feeling", is released as a single on Jan-13 (Echo). In
the spirit of the band's planet water vibe positivity... plant a
tree in Feeder's Fan Forest in Derbyshire! at a time when fuckwits are cutting
down the planet's lungs during environment instability, we can still depend on our
musicians more than our politicians to care... www.futureforests.com |
| I

Rewind
a year...: Eve Star 12-001hot top hip top hit tips:
"In the last few weeks and months we've
played with a lot of bands, the three we suggest you listen to and look out for are : The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster, British Sea Power & The Kennedy
Soundtrack. The first are shambolic noisey
harbingers of coked up Iggy raping The Icarus Line with more push ups. Second are Belle
and Sebastien mixed with Eastern European architecture creating enchanting sea shanties in
an entirely non-The Coral manner. The last are hip hop rock metal welshmen drawing in and
off America whilst wearing sun visors and skinheads yet strangely non racist or prejudice.
Check em all out if you can." (Conor from
Kinesis via Rocklands Grapevine). Kinesis, themselves, supported King Adora on tour, and had a Radio 1
session broadcast by Steve Lamacq by the end of last year. Debut release "Worship
Yourself" did them loads of favours and 002 has seen continue to rise and pick up
exposure.plus...
Alternative Media - 2002 Stars (like punk really happened) - look out for a surge in
non-establishment music media in 2002. Extra places for new bands and fans to communicate
can't be a bad thing...
It's not all awards, hype, charts,
lists etc. There is still some down to earth music media out there and it's on the rise,
as "the mould" major publications fold like deck chairs at the end of a sunny
day.
It is the alternative media that is making the difference to the music scene. Dig (underground
for) The New Breed.
