King Adora, Aberdeen Lava - 06-11-002

At last! a decent gig in my hometown. Me and Debbie went along to Lava back of eight hoping we weren’t too late to catch the support band.  Lava is quite a small venue with a nice little stage, very intimate.  We went right down to the front of the stage and stood to the left beside the wall. It was well handy as there were shelves right along the wall to put your drinks etc on.  There was a hinge under the shelf that I hung my coat on. Put my drink and cigs on the shelf.  I really made myself at home!

We only caught about the last five songs of Little Nikita.  They were really good, full of energy.  There was a female heckler in the audience shouting out at the band every time they ended a song. At first it sounded like she was after the lead singer/guitarist and then the other guitarist shouting “your sexy, I want to fuck you” and stuff like that. The lead singer retorted “this is one for the tour diary!”. Then she turned to the female bass player shouting the same stuff. What a shame! she didn’t know where to look! Next thing the heckler (I shall call her aficionado from now on) asked for a threesome and they agreed….. to keep her quiet! When they came off stage the aficionado went straight for the bass player!

We had a perfect view of the stage until this numpty of a girl stood right in front of us! After 15 minutes or so King Adora came on stage to the sounds of Police sirens, time for ‘The Law’, Maxi looked fabulous wearing a tiny pink t shirt, lovely star studded jeans, Nelsta was wearing a short sleeved shirt with a nice tie.  Robbie wearing a cute skinny t shirt and Dan, couldn’t see him apart from his cool spikey locks. I would love to know how he gets his hair to stay like that. They all looked stunning!

Debbie, can I have one? Can I take them home? Hee! We were stood at the Nelsta’s side. I noticed that they had the coolest guitar straps! Different animal prints on them. (note to Minxy! See if you can find out where they got them, I have to get one!) The Law went down a treat.  Next up ‘Death by Rock n Roll’ it has a great funky cheerful riff.  I started taking some photos but, I felt pathetic as there was a Japanese girl with two ‘super’ cameras along from us taking photos. She had this amazing digital camera. Anyway… Funnily enough… ‘Death by Rock N Roll’ segued into ‘Toyko Honey’ once it ended Maxi said “just cos you don’t know the fucking song you don’t have to stand there and go uhh? I paid 9 quid in man… whatever..” The place erupted with laughter!

Now ‘Big Isn’t Beautiful’. Everyone sung along.  I was wearing my black slashed sleeve Vines t shirt and I was feeling a bit like a betrayer! But I don’t have a King Adora t shirt. Ill have to get one. Next another new one ‘Come’, it was good but was a little short.  We kept getting flashes of Maxi’s belly button ring, what a tease!  Maxi said something like that the new songs are better than the Rolling Stones back catalogue! Everyone just yelled!

‘Bullimic’ Maxi kept enticing the crowd putting his feet up on the speakers at the front of the stage and leaning over with his guitar.  This one was sounding great too, another very infectious riff.  Nelsta’s was thrashing the guitar and one string snapped!

It was time for ‘Smoulder’ we all shook our bodies. The aficionado yelled “Maxi, you are a fucking God”. Maxi replied “I am God and this is Kamikaze” the whole place erupted again with laughter!

Next ‘Suffocate’ I felt like I was a bit with the numpty flicking her hair in my face and bashing into me with her freaky dancing, she kept getting in the way when I was trying to take photos of Maxi up on the drum riser. At the end the aficionado Yelled “Dan, you rock man!”.  Now for ‘Bionic’ the place went crazy! Another new one ‘Maniac Love’, loved it! Everyone was jumping around, it has an amazing riff.  At the end I think Maxi mentioned that they are touring next year and that that song would be out in January. Although, I could have misheard him…..

Then ‘Scream n Shout’ the gig was well into full swing now. But at the end of the song…. eh? what happened there? Dan thrashed out at the drums and they just went flying everywhere and Maxi and Nelsta went towards each other then the guitars were off and the all walked off stage.  Aw, don’t go yet!  Didn’t want the gig to end.  I wasn’t a massive fan of Kind Adora until this night, I had seen them support Mansun and I also got their album but, I really enjoyed the gig they were very entertaining and I loved the new stuff.  Can’t wait for their new album and to catch up with them on their next tour.

We waited for a little while to see if the lads were going to come into the club afterwards.  About half an hour later we left. I got home and I was still buzzing, I couldn’t sleep and my ears were still ringing! Ahh what a great night.
