Chelmsford Chess Club Summer Tournament -- 2005

Non members and members of other clubs are all welcome

Chelmsford Chess Club will commence their annual "Summer Tournament" on Thursday 19th May and this year the competition is expected to run for 8 weeks (finishing 7th July).

The competition is open to everyone and is a great opportunity for new members and casual players to visit the club to experience competitive chess. The tournament is a vigourously time-handicapped "30/30"competition. All games last one hour, with a standard time allocation of 30 minutes for each player. However, the time is aportioned between the competing players on the basis of strength.

New-comers and lower rated players often benefit from the generous time advantages and score spectacular results against the stronger players. Last year vigorous handicaps included 57 minutes vs 3 minutes and with Ivor Smith even playing one round blindfolded.

The tournament takes on a very flexible format. Two rounds are played every evening but competing players needn't play in every round. Infact, there is no requirement to play every week, either, which means that missing the opening round on the 19th May, is not a problem, as you can simply begin competing as and when.

There is no need to commit in advance and players simply register their interest in competing, when they arrive at the club.

Cost is £2.00 per week (Adult) and £1.00 (Junior). -- Pay as you play. -- Please arrive at 7.30pm to enter.

All are welcome (including thse from other clubs) and there is a trophy for the winner.
