Platina was also known as Bartolommeo de Sacchi. He lived from 1421 to 1481. "Vitae Pontificum" (1479) was the first systematic history of the popes; it is partisan and occasionally erroneous. Platina was imprisoned for plotting against Pope Paul II, but was appointed Vatican librarian in 1472 by Pope Sixtus IV |
