Typically, Elzeviers are small format books i.e. duodecimo volumes with approximate measurements of 12cm x 6cm.
The texts are usually in Latin.

Evidently, by the end of the 17th Century, the Elzevier books were avidly collected and although known for not being very correct, the paper, type, ornaments and format were considered the main attractions.
It is said that the best dates for Elzeviers begin from 1626. This coincides with the choice of excellent types by the descendants of the founder, Louis.
