Karen is the daughter of Lorraine and Kenzo Hojyo. Strictly speaking, Karen's not a Newscaster - BBC's News Order is presented by a computer graphic based on Karen for much of the game.

Having been diagnosed with secondary aplastic anaemia, she's on the waiting list for a bone marrow transplant but, even as the daughter of a Tokugawa Group employee, it's taking a while... not least to find a donor.

Even though Jonathan's seen Karen on the news, when he meets her in person he initially mistakes her for Lorraine. In the Saturn version, at least, they don't look that much alike. From what I've seen of the 3DO version, though, they're meant to be very similar. She's initially very angry at Jonathan, believing that he came between her parents, even in his absence.
