Socos Duo

Socos Duo consists of César Martín on marimba and Ciro Hernández on violincello. Their music is a fusion of Latin American music and their own compositions.

In their own words

Cause - effect, where nothing appears inseparable from randomness. Everything seems to follow a series of sequences, sometimes logical, sometimes without apparent meaning ... In January 2008, the result of causality begins to be born this duo. Laughter as an accomplice, a friendly word and coffee as a witness were giving way to what now bears fruit. 'Socos' is not a duo to use, rather it is a concept, an environment that pretending to be friendly, baby art, combining many of its elements. Thus, their performances are shows with music as the main shaft, which develop a global concept that goes beyond. His music has been adapted for this very unusual training, revising compositions covering many styles ranging from classic to contemporary composers, through styles as diverse as the vanguards of the twentieth century or folklore. This shows that training, which we will certainly not leave anyone indifferent ...

Influences include Jimi Hendrix, Kronos Quartet, Astor Piazzolla, Heitor Villa-Lobos, J S Bach.

Socos Duo gave an amazing performance in El Castillo de San Felipe, an old colonial fort en Puerto de la Cruz en Tenerife. For 'Libertango' by Astor Piazzolla they were joined by Jeremias Martin on accordion. Equally amazing was the Aria from Bachianas brasileiras No 5 by Heitor Villa-Lobos, the haunting cello captured the mood of the piece. The acoustics in El Castillo de San Felipe could not have been better and it is unfortunate that their performance was not recorded to be released as a live album

I find myself reminded of Zum who gave an amazing concert a few years back at the Electric Theatre in Guildford during the Guildford International Music Festival.
