Thursday 12th Sept

Hurray! It's holiday time. I'm down at Wantage, staying with Alan and June overnight before we go to Gayton (near Northampton) to pick up the narrowboat tomorrow.

There were all sorts of things to do before setting out, including a meeting at the school of which I'm a governor. Eventually it was all sorted out, and I was ready to go a little after four. It was half past seven by the time I got to Wantage, and I was glad to see that Alan, June, Nick and Penny — though already gathered at Alan's and June's house — had not yet gone out for the evening. We went for a drink at the Royal Oak and then had an excellent curry in a little restaurant off the town square. Back about eleven, in a relaxed mood, ready to enjoy whatever tomorrow will bring.
