1998 (Northampton - Oxford - London)

Over the years, the canal holidays we've taken have mostly been for a week at a time — usually in a loop of some sort, so that the second part of the holiday isn't just going back over old ground. We've often talked about going for a fortnight, but only done it once before — until this year, when we decided to do the largest loop so far, from Northampton down the Oxford Canal, along the Thames to Brentwood and up the Grand Union.

We met, as usual, in Wantage, where the other members of the group have lived for several years now. I drove up from Surrey on the Saturday night, stayed overnight with Alan and June, at which point we take up our story...
