Major C.P.R. Postlethwaile who recently joined the Friends of Carnforth writes

"My grandfather Mr Plato Postlethwaite joined the Furness Railway as a Clerk at Askam on the 4th February 1878. He transferred to Carnforth Station (Goods Clerk) on the 9th April 1883. Finally retiring about November 1925.
I as a boy was at Earnseat School Arnside from 1941 to1947 travelling from London to Arnside & back for each term. I remember well changing at Carnforth  standing on the platform & getting on & off the Main Line trains
