There is a list of guides. In particular this site includes an information guide on:
Alternative source of The ERIC Pages. The old multiple site Gopher links are still there. (I have found that it is worth checking each site.)
"...the largest organisation in the UK for teaching children and adults with dyslexia and the largest organisation for training of teachers of dyslexia. We have 25 centres around the UK and more than 140 outposts (sub centres).
Their description of themselves includes the following:
"iANSYST was founded in early 1983 to supply good value software for training and education. Our Dyslectech products range from Text-to-Speech Synthesis, Speech-to-Text Dictation, sound devices, electronic dictionaries, scanners and OCR software, typing programs, other software products and complete computers to meet the needs of dyslexic people and the world in general."
It was developed by Interactive Systems Ltd, Dublin. Their Marketing Manager, Glenn Kenny, says:
'We are very pleased with the high level of interest StudyScan has generated. Educational Psychologists and Special Needs Co-ordinators are aware of its potential in terms of providing a standard diagnostic dyslexia assessment, and in reducing the amount of time they would spend on coding and reporting with traditional assessment procedures'.Their sales department can be contacted for a demo.

Recent news from
Abigail Marshall
of the Davis Dyslexia Association about their web site:
"We have added a
bulletin board, accessible from our home page.
Access is open to all.
We have also created a free e-mail subscription service.
To subscribe,
send e-mail to
request-dyslexia@parentsplace.com
with "subscribe" in the message portion of your mail.
This is primarily an in-house news
bulletin service, intended as a way to notify interested persons of
DDAI news & events, and additions to our web site, and is sent only to
those people who specifically request it.
However, we will include
tidbits or announcements of a non-commercial nature upon request - the
bulletin is disseminated about once a month."
"The only accredited college in the nation
exclusively serving students with dyslexia, ADHD, or specific
learning disabilities."
Their WWW site includes information on programs and
admissions, descriptions of students, and links to other sites
relating to learning difficulties. They also intend to soon include
examples of materials and methods used at Landmark College, and
suggestions for parents.
"These books previously only available to professional educators NOW
AVAILABLE to parents as well as educators for the first time on the
Internet; two books, that for years have been used by teachers and
professionals in the education vocation.
These books previously available only through Dr. Lifson's workshops and
training sessions can now be yours by way of this special offer."
They say that their books would be of interest to the parent of any child who exhibits any of the following traits or characteristics: Attention Deficit Disorder, Hyperactivity, Hypoactivity, Temper tantrums, Impulsive Behaviour, Perserveration, Impaired motor skills, Auditory problems or Dyslexia.
This seems to me like a tall order! I have not seen the books my self, so can't comment on them. (Would anyone independent like to email me a review?)
The synopsis over there says:
"DYSLEXIA MY LIFE - one man's story of his life with a learning disability. In elementary school Girard Sagmiller was diagnosed as mentally retarded by his teacher and school administrators, who recommended that his family institutionalize him. In reality he suffered from dyslexia, which can affect speech, reading, time perception, and can slow learning in some subjects. In his book, DYSLEXIA MY LIFE , Girard Sagmiller discusses his struggles to overcome the ignorance and prejudice of his friends, family and society in general, to succeed in school (getting his MBA), business and life."
They also have other helpful information and other teacher education courses.
