Dual flying is probably the most satisfying type of flying I have done to date. I get quite a kick out of helping someone who can't fly get to enjoy the feeling of flying by the seat of their pants. The look on the faces of those I've taken dual are an absolute picture. I imagine my face was the same the first time I flew.
I have flown 3 different dual gliders, APCO Spectra for 2, Windtech Sherpa and a MAC Diamond. So far the MAC is the easiest to launch, fly and land.
If you fancy flight on a dual wing, most schools and clubs will have them available but due to new insurance arrangements, make sure you see some evidence that the pilot flying you is covered.
The above pictures were taken on Merthyr hill in Wales. Wing is the MAC Diamond.
The pictures below are a sequence taken at the XClent winch club in Cheltenham.
The Benefits :) Not often women listen to what I'm
saying :(
Taking
up the slack in the line. Adrenaline flowing in the P2
Start the run (if you can call it that) and inflate
the wing.
Check
the wing to make sure it's fully inflated.
Approach to land. Aprehension and fear turned to
delight
If you fancy a go at this then come along to our field near Cheltenham and one of the dual pilots will take you for a flight.
Since we are not "commercial" pilots or Air Experience Instructors, the dual pilot cannot accept any payments of any sort. However, all the flying kit was paid for by a group of pilots, some who rarely get to fly it. A "donation" of £15 to them, via the club, will allow us to "hire" their kit.
Movie of a launch and landing with a Multiple Sclerosis P2 on the front. She couldn't walk or stand without support and so 2 people supported her on launch and caught her on landing.
