Aberdulais is a site of Historical interest because in the early 1800's there was here a thriving Tin plate industry that provided much needed employment for Aberdulais and the surrounding area a great deal of work has and is still being done to keep the place going and to preserve some of it for years to come. In the picture below we can see the only remaining buildings left intact on the site, The old Stables and works Library, now the information center.

On the left of the path approaching the site we can see the bridge that spanned the river Dulais, the force of water that rushed down the gorge when the river was in flood took half of it away has we can see below

.
Facing us as we walk to the site we can see the water wheel that played such an important part in the working of the tin plate works

we have now climbed to a higher level in order to have a better view of the wheel below. And a picture below also from the same place, some of the ruins that are left of what was once the bldg's of the tin works also the cottages of some of the workers.

.Below are the Aberdulais Falls, but strange as it may seem we were informed that the wheel was not working because there was not enough water in the river because of the dry spell we were having.

The picture below shows the force of water that rushes down this gorge when the river is in flood these pictures were taken during the summer.

The picture of a section of the wheel shown below gives some idea of how much power could be generated by this wheel.

I found the two following stories very interesting and thought of how hard life must have been for people in those days. Young lads of 9 and 10 were taken out of school and went working in the tin plate works and down the mines, young women also worked in the tinplate works and the coal mines
