If you are a power pop fan and do not own the Zombie soundtrack, find a copy immediately. I can't say enough about the album, but the comments at allmusic.com sum it up nicely. Some of the artists on the album are The Fleshtones, Alex Chilton, The db's and The Smithereens. The person who put this soundtrack together deserves a special exhibit in the power pop hall of fame.

Guadalcanal Diary came out of the same Athens, GA music scene as REM and unfortunately they were much less appreciated. Their label took all their albums out of print even though you can't find a spare copy anywhere, so they got back together and recorded a new live album a couple of years ago which also sold out.This album is worthy of the list for the drums on Litany alone.

Todd Snider is a great musician from the Memphis, TN area and this is the best work of his that I've heard. Definitely worth a listen if you don't mind a little southern drawl in your power pop.

The Refreshments are(were) a band from the southwest US who unfortunately made only 2 albums that I know of. This is the best. They got some radio play so you may have heard Banditos.

Uncle Tupelo was labeled as an alt country band with acult following. This, in my opinion is their best work.

Finally, Jackopierce is a great duo from the Texas are who have a folk sound with amazing harmonies.

If you've heard some of these artists, here are a few runners up: Trout Fishing In America - particularly great if you have children.. .New Duncan Imperials, The Godfathers, Fetchin Bones and Thelonious Monster.
