Comments:

They aren't in any particular order, well my favourite is first, but no order apart from that:

Vespertine Björk
The girl who has us all wondering 'what will she do next?' has answered and again got us saying 'I wasn't expecting that'. Another great collection, the usual swathe of strings, harps an icelandic choir and also a digital twist thanks to the contribution from new buddies Matmos. My album of the year, not getting tired of it yet and new facets emerge from it with each new day.

The Optimist LP Turin Brakes
At the front of what the media are calling the new acoustic movement, understandably so with the low key production of the album. As you would expect from 2 friends who met in their school choir the lyrics flow effortless weaving a web around the mainly guitar based music. While the album has a soothing low key feel, when they get a band behind then they rock live.

Draw Matthew Jay
Young male guitar playing singer/songwriters seem to be 2 a penny at the minute. Welshman Jay, may prove to outlast the rest with his blend of guitar and a voice that carries across the full range of emotions. The biggest factor in his favour is that he has not become the media darling like those who came and disappeared oh so quickly.

Rocking the Suburbs Ben Folds
An album as good as Whatever and Ever, Amen shows that Ben is not missing the influence of the other 3 of the five. As always Ben's use of the piano is the core of the album, but his independence means he has been able to become a multi-instrumentalist, definitely no ordinary jack-off-all-trades.

Daft Punk - Discovery
French disco, pop with the melodic edge that fellow countryman Air displayed so well on Moon Safari and to a lesser extent on 10,000Hz. So catchy almost every track here could be a single, which may well happen as tracks 1-4 have all been released in order. Served with a side of humour, it's the dance album of 2001.

Mercury Rev - All is Dream
This is simply just beautiful music. Nothing more needs to be said really.

Also rans:
Air - 10,000Hz Legend
Ed Harcourt - Here be Monsters
Is This It? - The Strokes
Spiritulized - Let it Come Down
Starsailor - Love is Here
Travis - The Invisible Band

How did I miss this for the past 5 years? I dunno, almost as sugary as a bag of Sainsbury's 10 raspberry doughnut's and definitely as mooreish.
