Comments:

1. It's Arthur Lee! What more do you need? The man could put together a song like few others. Sadly, he is widely unrecognized for his many, many talents. Spin "Always See Your Face" a few times. A few thousand times. Just listen to the construction of this tune. Perfection . . .

2. Sure, I cheated. Linus has two albums and I have one on each list. To be honest, this man deserves all the accolades that I'm sending his way. Pure pop at its pure best. Melodies, harmonies, hooks . . . these songs are overflowing with all the essentials. Besides, the man covers Ozzy Osbourne . . . and WELL! Plus, he has penned what may be the greatest song about beer . . . Ever.

3. Not widely regarded as Mr. MacManus' best work, but I passionately disagree. Here, Costello has stripped himself of the technical trappings of his two previous albums and produces music with such raw intensity and pure musical grace, that it recalls his earliest work. Perhaps the lack of a clear potential "hit" is what turned off some of his mid-career fans. Or maybe it was the fact that it sounds like he is working out some musical demons here. Something is clearly boiling the blood of Elvis, and he's going to let it out. Costello once again proves that greed, revenge, jealousy, and squandered love are the makings of great, intense music. As a diehard EC fan, this disc has become one of my favorites.

4. If Burt Bacharach and Bobby Vinton had a sexually ambiguous alien love child, John Southworth would be it. Damn odd music. But catchy and wonderful at the same time.

5. Steve Ward is an expert at three-minute perfection. Whether it's with Cherry Twister, or here by himself. This disc should be on everyone's shelf. Pure pop enjoyment on every single track. Killer harmonies, catchy melodies . . . Power Pop? Maybe not. Maybe so. Maybe it's just plain pop. But pretty damn near perfect, no matter what it is . . .

6. Want to talk about power? Lest we ever forget . . . Blistering performances by a band that is widely regarding for their album rock of the Seventies. Too many people forget where they started, and for me, with Live at Leeds they were on top of their game. This is an essential disc that shouldn't be forgotten. But, sadly, it often is.
