Beatles - A Hard Days Night
Power pop didn't really start here (one thinks of Buddy Holly and/or The
Everlys), but this is the first great PP record from beginning to end.
Squeeze - East Side Story
Growing up in the American south, it took a few years to actually hear
this record after reading so much about it. The rave reviews were on the
one.
Bangles - All Over The Place
Simply beautiful. Wide-eyed and innocent. This record is what's right
about pop music, from the stinging jangle of the 12-string to the smiling
forcefulness of the layered harmonies.
Cheap Trick - In Color
A tough choice between this and the debut. 'In Color' won out, however,
due to the overall tunefulness. The band had obviously hit its stride
with this one.
Crowded House -'Crowded House
Some might doubt the pp validity, here. However, in my humble opinion,
pop rarely got more powerful. Wonderful songwriting match by atmospheric
production.
