PROGRAMME FOR 2002

Don't forget that ALL THURSDAYS not shown below are still terrific fun - we always have wonderful local musicians playing a variety of styles, songs and music

24th Jan BURNS NIGHT with Beer's Law, haggis (addressed an' all), tatties and neaps - dig out your scottish tunes and songs.
14th Feb MIKE BAKER & RUSS HARRIS Our two local heroes will be combining their talents to bring us what promises to be an excellent night. (Now we know it's Valentines Night, but don't read anything into this new alliance - Ed.)
28th Feb GLANDT & GUNNAR NILSON Fox Tower Bluegrass Band, Gunnar, who has his second home in Northern Ireland, Andy Glandt and Gunnar Nilson are two German acoustic musicians who play (as Piece of Cheese) a wide variety of international folk music including Irish, bluegrass, skiffle, blues, Latin, and other styles as well as their own original songs. Andy is well known as leader and banjo-player of the Fox Tower Bluegrass Band with whom he has toured world-wide, including performances at the Athy, Wexford, Dunmore East, and Omagh festivals and other venues in Ireland. In the duo he also plays guitar and whistle. Gunnar, who has his second home in N. Ireland, is well known as a member of the band Flaxmill, with whom he played traditional Irish music on bouzouki, bodhran, tenor banjo, and guitar.
Andy's recent publication The 5-string banjo in the D tuning (StoneCross Music, 2000), for intermediate to advanced players, is an excellent guide to this neglected tuning (info c/o BLUEGRASS IRELAND )
14th Mar ST PATRICK's NIGHT Kathy and Felix (Kelly's Aye) will provide an evening of Irish music. Listen to ballads - ancient and modern. Sing along with the old favourites. Tap your feet to traditional tunes. Come along and enjoy yourselves!!
18th Apr FOOTLOOSE Residents at Nettlebed, Richard's guitar playing and Terry's mellifluous voice have made them a sought after duo on the local folk scene.
16th May GERRY DRYDEN Gerry is a talented singer/songwriter who has always been a popular regular at both the Windmill and Fleet clubs.  This guest evening coincides with the launch of his new CD!
20th Jun KEN PERLMAN Ken has been a regular guest at the club on his annual visit to to the UK . His clawhammer-style banjo playing and guitar dexterity (and sinisterity, ed) have delighted audiences on his previous visits.
4th Jul
BBQ This coincides with American Independence Day (I thought we revoked that last year when they failed to elect a president Ed.) so dig out your American songs! A separate sheet giving details of the evening is available from Sherryl.
11th Jul
TUDOR LODGE Our 'old' friends John and Lynne will again entertain us with their music. They perform a lot of their own material, but have been known to slip in a few well known 60s songs for audience participation. Be prepared!
18th Jul
THE BOYS OF NAVARONE - from BELGIUM. Eugene O'Neil, who has played with various bands with Gary Payne, is now living in Belgium. His present band line up includes 3 Belgians - all superb musicians. They play mainly Bluegrass, but other musical styles influence their playing. Their visits to the UK are rare and we are lucky to have been able to book them for the Windmill. Should be a wonderful evening.
August We're Here with Singers Nights during the Summer!

12th Sep
STEVE KAUFMAN is a fantastic flat-picker - he is the only three time winner of the prestigious National Flatpicking Championships held in Winfield, Kansas, capturing first place in 1978, 1984 and 1986. As well as coming to give us a really good evening of music in a broad range of styles including bluegrass favorites, popular swing standards, Irish and Appalachian fiddle tunes, folk and country classics and novelty tunes, Steve will be running a 45 min workshop from 7.30-8.15. There will be a charge of £10 for the workshop - but if you look at his web-site you'll see it's extraordinarily good value.
26th Sep
LIZ SIMCOCK is making a name for herself on the London scene and beyond. She sings and accompanies herself on guitar. Much of the material she performs is her own compositions. A new face, a new talent, highly recommended - don’t miss her!
17th Oct
SHERRYL & GARY PAYNE by popular demand! When Sherryl and Gary aren't running the Windmill Club, they are travelling around the country with one of the bands they are involved with. It's a rare occasion to get them to do a duo guest spot. Gary's instrumental skills and Sherryl wonderful singing will ensure that that this will be a special evening
31st Oct
The HOT STRING QUINTET Our SPECIAL GUESTS from GERMANY wowed us when they were here last October. In the autumn they will be gigging in Ireland and the UK and we're delighted to welcome them back again to what should be a memorable evening at the Windmill
28th Nov
WINDMILL 10th ANNIVERSARY (NEW DATE) featuring KEITH HARDY
We always have a very enjoyable evening when Keith comes to the Windmill. Keith started the original club at Eversley (The Pig-in-the-Field) back in the 1970s. We also hope to see many other 'old friends' on this special occasion - do pass the word around. Please note the change of date!
19th Dec
THE CHRISTMAS PARTY
We usually have so much local musical talent at the party that it can be difficult fitting everyone in - but we do try! Seasonal songs especially welcome, but not compulsory! Food will be provided but a small contribution to the food table will be welcome.
