Server Installation Options
Bootable CD, no support for boot floppies. GUI-based setup similar to XP. Product activation required unless using Open Licence, Select Licence or Enterprise Agreement. 'Configure Your Server' wizard appears at logon, provide a 'Typical First Server' template: configures server as Domain Controller, installs AD services, DNS, DHCP, and RRAS, if needed. Custom Setup allows you to configure:
- File Server, using quotas and Indexing Service
- Print Server, serving shared printers and drivers. Installs IIS, Internet Printing Protocol (IPP), and web-based print-admin tools.
- Application Server using combination of IIS, ASP.NET and COM+ to support hosting of Web applications
- Terminal Server for use by tsclints or RDP clients. remote Desktop, administration mode installed by default. Terminal Server roles only required when hosting applications
- Remote Access or VPN server
- Active Directory Domain Controller. Installs DNS and runs AD installation wizard
- DNS Server. Install then configure with 'Configure DNS server' wizard
- DHCP server
- Streaming Media Server provides Windows Media Services (WMS)
- WINS server for legacy application support
