1. Butterton in North Staffs October 2003 page 2

On this occasion we spent a boozy walking weekend with Steve & Maureen, Bill & Les, Eric & Rose and ourselves, celebrating, if that is the word, the men all meeting
50 years ago in the first form at Hanley High School. To make the occasion even more unique, we are all still married to our original spice.

Early the first morning I took a walk, starting at the church, just opposite the Black Lion where we were staying. The light was good for photography

Walking down the hill out of Butterton, the camera couldn't cope with the contrast of sunlight and shade, even though it was only 8am.

At the bottom of the hill, a small stream crosses the road, forming a shallow ford. A notice implores you to beware of playing ducks.

Another view of the ford, looking back up the lane

Brown End Quarry, a boyhood  haunt looking for fossils in the limestone. Now it is a scientific site with very informative notices about the geology.
