Beckenham High Street struggles to maintain a diverse
mixture of retail outlets. But is increasingly dominated by bars, restaurants
and estate agents. These almost exclusively replace any other retail outlets
that come onto the market for sale. This reflects the requirements of the
increasing proportion of young commuter orientated residents.
There
remain two Pubs on the High street with some history these are the George Inn
(c.1662) and the Coach & Horses, a third the Three Tuns
(c.1900) has recently been converted into a trendy bar as part of a
recent town centre development of small town houses.
Despite all the
changes and modernisation Beckenham High street at least survives as a thriving
and popular shopping centre with two supermarkets and a vibrant night life, no
urban decay is apparent here. Click this link for a detailed list of
shopping in
Beckeham.
