2004 was a significant year
for the game of Draughts. It saw the inauguration of a new system for deciding who has the
right to challenge for the World title at both 3 move restriction and freestyle.
This system , put into place by the newly formed World Checkers & Draughts federation
, involves the invitation of selected players from those countries affiliated to the WCDF,
to participate in a world qualifying tournament, the winner of which earns the right to
challenge for the World title. The first such tournament was held in Bridgetown Barbados at
the Grande Salle, Tom Adam's Financial Centre, and was a 3 move world qualifying
