This event was held during the 5th Mindsports Olympiad., an annual event which attracts
thousands of players from all over the world to play various mind competitions and board
games such as draughts ,chess,go ,backgammon,scrabble etc.Winner of the British &
Irish freestyle championship was Mustafa Durdyev from Turkmenistan,a master at russian 8x8
and also the youngest ever grandmaster at 10x10. This was his first tournament at the
Anglo American game.His performance and excellent crossboard skills mark him out as a
player to be watched.

team with a score of 62 wins to 24 with 114 draws.

There was a three way tie for first place but Fred Buckby with more honour points emerged
the winner ,with Harwood and Boyle on equal honour points sharing 2nd/3rd positions.As the
highest placed Birmingham player Tony Boyle was the winner of the Birmingham Cup.
