During the year we try to get the cadets involved in as much out of doors work as we can. When this isn't shooting, flying & gliding then it is generally in the form of adventure training exercises.

For our Squadron these exercises can be split into three main areas:
Hiking - Fieldcraft - Orienteering

Hiking & Trekking

We have run a number of basic hiking and hill walking exercises. In the run-up to which we will teach you all the skills you need to have fun "Safely" in the outdoors. See the links below for more information

  • Camp Craft - Including: Tent Burn Demo!
  • Map Reading & Navigation
  • Exercise Planning
  • The Country Code
  • Outdoor cookers & cooking
  • Food & drink for trekking

As well as a bit of posing ->

  • Orienteering

In order to improve & test map reading skills, occasionally the Sqn is taken out on orienteering exercises.

These involve being given a map and a number of grid co-ordinates, you then have to make your way around the co-ordinates as quickly as possible.
In order to confirm that you have been to each point there is normally a code or stamp at each point that you will need to note down.
More info to come as we do more of these over the next few months...
