Stephen Bevan left his job as a labourer in the local copperworks and served in the 1st Bn. South Wales Borderers. He is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, along with 20,000 others who died in the area and have no known grave - yet his name also appears on the headstone of the family grave in St.John's churchyard, Skewen, Glamorgan.
