Davy W Reed

Torpedoed by German aircraft 15 miles west of St Davids Head on passage Swansea for Takoradi in ballast and later sank. Cardigan and Tivyside Advertiser reported:
Lost at Sea. - During the week-end Mrs. Reed, Cefn Bach, Llandygwydd, received the sad news that her son Mr. W.D. Reed, was missing and presumed killed as a result of enemy action. "Dai" (as he was popularly known to his friends) had seen service with the Merchant Navy for some years, although he was only 17 years of age. He had on two previous occasions served on ships which were lost through enemy action. His father is interned in Switzerland, for, with a section of his unit he escaped there after the collapse of France last June. The deepest sympathy of a wide circle of friends and relatives is extended to the bereaved family in their great sorrow and anxiety.
