The Will of William Gilbarn 1557

In the name of god amen. The last day of September in the year
of our lord god an do ? fyftie and seven and in the 4th and 5th years of the reigne of our
soveraine lord and Ladye Philipp and Marye by the grace of god king and Qene of
Englannd spayne ffrannce both ?Sicilie? hierusalem and Ireland defenders of ye faith
Archeduke of Austrye, duke of Burgundye ?millayn? and ?Brabarne? ?counties of?
haspurge fflannders and tyroll. I William Gilbarn citizen and drap. of London
being hole in mynde and in good and Parfitt memorye laude be to allmighte god doo
make and ordayne this my present testament containing my last will in manner and
fourme following, that is to say, ffirst I give and commend my soule to allmighte god
my sav'or and redemer, in and by whose merites I fully beleve to have salvation
resurrection and everlasting lief Item I comitte my body to the earth to be buryed in
decent manner of a christian where it shall please god to provide for it withoute
any gloriouse pompe or withe showe. Item I bequeathe to twentye poore men and xx
poore wymen free of the companye of drap's to evry of them a gowne of ?????tell ?frise?
or of good broade northen ?doss? and to evry of them 20d in ready money. Item I give
and bequeath to and amonge suche hospitalled in the citie of London
lately erected twenty pounds. Item I give and bequeath to and amonge such poore
scollers at or students in the setting ?furth? of goddes worde ??? the ?????? sitie
of Cambridge tenne pounds of lawfull monny of England. Item likewis I give
and bequeathe to and among such poore scollers in the ?_inner sitie of Oxford as
are students in the seting fourth of godds worde tenn pounds of lawfull money of
England. Item I give and bequeath to evry of my god children being only ?? at the
tyme of my decease fourtye shillings. item I gve and bequeathe to and amonge the
