Joanna Gilborne and James Lyons
All that is known of James and Joanna is that a licence for their marriage was issued in Dublin in 1798. The exact date and location of their marriage has not been found. It is an assumption that James Gilborne Lyons, born about 1800 in Ireland is their son.
James Gilborne Lyons entered Trinity College Dublin as a sizar about 1834. He graduated wwith a B.A. in 1836, followed by an LL.B. in 1838. He continued to study and gained his M,.A. and LL.D. in 1842.
He emigrated to the United States in 1844, and began his clerical work at St. Mary's Church, Burlington, N.J. He moved to Philadelphia in 1846 and in 1848 published his book 'Christian Songs'. In 1850 he was an Episcopalian Minister in New Market Ward, Philadelphia. He set up a classics school in Haverford, Pennsylvania, and was principal until his death 2 February 1868.
He has not been found in the 1860 census, and it is not known when he married. No children are known. His will is famous for its brevity:
"My wife Louisa H Lyons to be my sole heir and executor.
James Gilbourne Lyons, 1857."
