Percy attested as driver 52013 for Royal Engineers at Eastwood on 2
Sep 1914. He soon transferred to 21st Signal Co, on 5 Oct 1914. The
Eastwood & Kimberley Advertiser published a letter
that he wrote home describing his first weeks after joining up.
His record shows that he forfeited 2 days pay 4 Sep 1915 after exceeding the
limits of his pass from 11pm 4 Sep until 10.40pm 5 Sep. (Deprived of 3 days
pay)
On 2 May 1916 he was awarded 7 days confined to barracks and ordered to
forfeit 7 days pay (open arrest) for ill treating a horse.
He came back to England on leave 8-18 Jan 1917.
He had been admitted to 1 Can G.H. 1 Apr 1917 and went back to England again
13 Apr.
On 21 May 1917 he was hospitalised for 37 days for ICT to his 3rd finger.
He finally embarked for England 24 Jan 1918 . He then joined
"R" cable sect (No.13) via GHQ Sig school (Italy) on 22 Feb
1918. He was discharged 30 Jan 1919 at ?Chatham?
