Worcestershire field two teams in the Midland Counties Chess Union team tournament. The open and the Under-125 teams compete over 16 boards. Winners of the Open competition go forward to the British Chess Federation (BCF) counties national stages. Competing teams who have not won national stages in the Open competition go forward to the national stages of the BCF Counties Minor Championship. Worcestershire have competed in the national stages of the BCF Minor Championship in recent years.
Worcestershire are fielding an Under-125 team in the Midland Counties competition. This team plays over 16 boards. Giles Stanton, who is supported by Phil Church, is taking the captaincy. For the first time the county is also playing in the under 100 competition over 12 boards with Phil Church as captain. If you would like to be considered for selection for either of these sides, please contact Giles at 01527 402436 or Phil Church at 01527 542519. The home venue for their games is Webheath Village Hall, Redditch B97 5SQ.
Matches are played on Saturdays. These usually start at 2pm. Venues for home fixtures are either at Claines Church Institute, Worcester (Open team) or at Redditch (Under-100 and 125 teams). If you would like to watch or play, or sponsor either team in any way, please contact Maurice Bissell, 5 Bitternwood Road, Kidderminster DY10 4EG. Telephone: 01562 60146.
