Match report: from Giles
Giles' team, slightly ougraded, overturned last year's result to register a splendid win. This puts Worcs second in the MCCU table behind Staffs.
Giles writes: "A great result for Worcestershire winning our match against Warwickshire 7-9 today. I think its six years since we managed a similar feat in the u125 team. A well rounded team performance was kicked off in double time by Peter Banks early win. But the engine house of our victory came from excellent play from all six of our top boards who only dropped one and a half points between them against some experienced Warwickshire players. On board 11 Rob showed some very resilient play to survive a rocky opening and be able to capitalise on his opponents mistake to win his game. I'm hoping to get some tips from him! Don's win put us on 8 points with boards 10 and 12 to finish. Having regained a lost piece from the opening I thought I should be able to hold for a draw but in time pressure I crumbled. Meanwhile Krysztof put the pressure on his opponent offering him a draw to give us the match in what looked like a drawn position. Having spurned his offer he allowed Krys' a knight fork check to win a piece, the game and the match."
