The county entered three teams in the Midlands Championship titles organised by the Midland Counties Chess Union.

The Team Captain was Maurice Bissell. The matches were played on Saturday afternoons over 16 boards with a toss for colour at the start of the match. The playing session was 5 hours with time control at 40 moves in 2 hours followed by a further ½ hour for each player to complete the game. There were three matches this year and we finished the season with one win, one draw and one loss. |

Stanton was again the captain and led the team to the national
stages of the competition only to be pipped by Lancashire. The
matches were played on
Saturday afternoons starting at 1:30pm over
16 boards. The top two
teams in the West Midlands competed in the Midlands Finals
and Semi-Finals with the top two teams from the East Midlands (Derbys,
Leics, Lincs, and Notts). The playing session was 4 hours
with time control at 36 moves in 1½ hours
followed by a further ½ hour
for each player to complete the game. |
