All the Udus use the large holes in the side and at the ends to produce bass notes. There various types of Udu - above you can see the a long spouted Udu which has a metallic ringing tone, a rather beautiful vase-like version with a very light tone colour, the double ended one with two bass tones, a fibre glass version which also features a drum skin on the side, and a small African Udu which has a delightful higher pitched bass note.
