Hi, I was
rasied in beith, too. I was born in 1967 in irvine and lived in Beith
till I was 12, i left just before i was supposed to go to garnock
high. My grandma still lives there on auldlea road, I used to live on
robert burns court, and before that the `prefabs`. Its funny i
noticed a janet wallace also born at the same time as me in 1967, but
thats what my mum is called too, spooky.. So while janet was being
born, my mum, janet, was having me . My dad, charlie wallace too, was
pretty well known around the town.. I remember a janet wallace in my
class at school, i wonder if its the same person. My grandpa used to
be the bursar of the high church, john wallace, and my grandma,
elizabeth wallace, was the choir leader for years, he used to take me
upto to the top of the clock tower to look out, its pretty high!My
other grandparents still live in saltcoats, where they always have. I
moved out to california a few years ago, its nice to see the old
town. especially the church, as its right next to my old primary
school, and just before my old high school..see ya. - 3DO Library

Hello, I
have just spent a very enjoyable hour looking and reading your pages
on Beith. First I found Gordon Robertsons page and then yours. I was
born in Beith in 1932 and lived there till 1941 when my Mother died
and I had to move to Glasgow. My mother owned a ladies/childrens shop
at 30 Main St. Next to us was Blackwoods on one side and Miss Whites
sweety shop, then Doro's fish and chip. I grew up with Mario Doro who
recently died of a sudden heart attack. In my search for information
on Beith my first contact was with a man from Killwinning, living in
California. he got me on to Colin Waldin [30 Reform ST.] who has been
very helpful in giving me information on Beith. For example he talked
to Tom Blackwood, the butcher, who remembers me as a small boy. I
have lost all contact with the family relatives but some must still
live in the town. Names I remember are; Wilson, Campbell, Kellet and
a family friend, Ina Kennady who lived in the big house at the top of
The Strand. My name is Ritchie Brown and I would appreciate hearing
from anyone who knows me or my family. My last visit to Beith was in
1968.Thank you again for all the information provided on your home page. |

Hello, I
happen to live in the ' lovely ' town of Beith. I have just had the
pleasure of being introduced to your site. While I understand the
need to conserve our heritage I also think that the future, and the
present also need to be improved. Ok, so we've got a cool new primary
school, BIG DEAL! I'm JUST a tiny bit old to enjoy it, and as for
sending MY kids there, I DON'T THINK SO! I am going to GET OUT as
soon as I can. It may look quaint and nice from afar, but I know the
truth! You may be thinking, " ok smartypants, where would
you like to live?????", the answer? somewhere that has
acknowledged the 20th century, somewhere that has more to offer to
youngsters than hanging about the strand, drinking copious amounts of
Buckfast and cheap cider, somewhere that has a TRAIN STATION, etc etc etc......
Now please
don't think that I am a bad person, because I'm not. I just don't
think you should be on the net, singing the praises of a small town
called Beith. |

G'Day, I
found your website on Beith very interesting. I discovered it while
digging up some family history, I have found many entries in
Marriages and Births of KENNEDAY families in Beith. All of them in
very late 1600's through to early 1800's. During this time the name
becomes rarer in Scotland and more common in England, Maybe they
picked the wrong (or right?) side in the Civil War or Jacobite
Rebellions. ( I have one file showing a prisoner being sent toe the
USA as a Jacobite)
My family
came to Australia in 1853 when they "jumped ship" to go to
the Goldfields at Ballaarat in Voctoria. I was wandering if their was
someone or a group in Beith who I could send my assorted details to
for a bit more information. f so , could you pass on my email address.
I hope
your attempts to regenerate the Town succeed, I live in a small but
rapidly growing town about 40 miles from Melbourne, while the growth
helps to provide services the charm of the small town soon dissapears. |

I stumbled
across, and had a browse through your web site for nostalgic reasons;
it was a real treat. I left Beith some 24 years ago on a 2 year
working holiday and headed for New Zealand where I have stayed ever
since. I have returned on occassions to visit my sister who still
lives in the town. The Kerr's were well known in the town. My
grandfather lived there all hid life. He was a cabinet maker as were
so many of the town's people in those days. Interesting to see the
old shops. I went to school with Billy Hoynes the Baker and I worked
as a delivery boy for Blackwood's the Butcher for many years. If you
have any interesting stories of the town please email me at this
address, until further notice |

I have
just visited your web site - I am from Beith and my family has been
traced as living here for over 300 years, however i now live in
Northampton. I was interested to see that you say that the local
flowershop is owned and run by Mrs McConnell. The Mrs McConnell in
question is my great aunt - she is 94. Her and her husband, along
with my gran and my other great aunt ran the shop, which was also a
fruit shop up until 1975, when they sold the shop to a Mr Stuart
Mitchell. He did not own it for long and he sold it to the present
owner, who is Janet Caskie. But the name above the door is not the
name of my great uncle, it is the name of his father, William
McConnell. I was interested to see your site, but would be grateful
if you would state accurate information. |
