Welcome to Conjury Nook!
It's the time of the turning of the year. Winter has come back to Conjury Nook, icing the hedges with early morning frost. Berries deck the bushes, bright hips and haws, and night-black sloes. At the end of the lane a crooked, half-timbered cottage crouches like a hunchback in the heart of a wild garden. There are houseleeks growing in the thatch, for luck. Few flowers remain in this season, just one or two pale, sad roses nodding by the back door. The terracotta head of a grave-faced goddess, crowned with variegated ivy, watches over the garden, which is now a place of mists, dew-spangled cobwebs and old ghosts. Come into the kitchen, and warm yourself by the stove. The cats are all inside, tucked away in warm, cosy corners, or perched on the widow-sills, staring at the world with that detached, amused interest of feline-kind, safely out of the wind and rain. Sit down in the nest of cushions on the rocking chair and decide between a cup of tea or a mug of coffee.
