Stepping Stones School and Conan Doyle's house Undershaw

Undershaw, the Edwardian brick house built to designs by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, has been bought by the DFN Charitable Foundation, headed by David Forbes-Nixon, to become the senior school for Stepping Stones School in Hindhead. It will take on pupils of ages 13-18 graduating from the existing special needs School in Tower Road. The students will be of an age to enjoy their rich cultural heritage (see the sherlock-holmes Society of London, or the Swiss Sherlock Holmes Museum in Meiringen).

This is an excellent outcome to the campaign by John Gibson and the Undershaw Preservation Trust which led to a favourable judicial review in 2012 and preserved Undershaw from dissolution. I am hoping that the flat from which this material is written, 10 minutes walk away from Undershaw, will by my Will soon become another part of Stepping Stones School.
