Chelmsford            Vange – Priest in Charge

(Population: 12600, Electoral Roll: 32, Ave Sunday Attendance: 32)

Vange is an ancient village, which was transformed by post-war housing development into a suburb of the New Town of Basildon.  The parish now consists of high-density housing estates, where urban regeneration is taking place, particularly through the work of Housing Associations.  There are four primary schools in the parish, none of which is a church school, although there are links with the church school in a neighbouring parish.

All Saints, the ancient parish church, is in the hands of the Redundant Churches Committee and is not used for worship.  St Chad’s Church, built in 1957, is at the centre of modern Vange, with the Rectory next door.  The interior of the church has recently been refurbished.  The main Sunday service is usually the Eucharist, with a Family Service on the first Sunday of the month.  The parish describes its style of worship as middle-of-the-road Anglican, though with a degree of flexibility on these issues.  Lay participation is encouraged and there are two Readers.

The parish profile states:

We consider that we are a parish with potential… We welcome the opportunity to strengthen our spirituality and vision…  We want a priest who will lead us in the path God wants us to follow, and who will enable us to take up our cross and follow Him.  Above all, we seek a leader who will enable each one of us to fulfil our role in God’s kingdom.

Coleford (8100) is the largest town in the Royal Forest of Dean and home to the Forest District Council.    St John’s is a significant Victorian building and there have been discussions about a major-re-ordering with community involvement.  There is a great deal of energy and enthusiasm around and the church is generally in good heart with some strong lay leadership and two NSM’s and one House for Duty Priest in post who has particular responsibility for Newland, Redbrook and Clearwell.

There is a small mission church at Broadwell, together with the small ru4al communities of Staunton (263), Newland and Redbrook (6 13) and Clearwell (1528).  Freehold will be restored when this piece of pastoral reorganisation has been achieved.

Coleford has good schools and leisure facilities and there is an excellent family house opposite the church and in the centre of the town.

The Bishop is seeking to appoint:-

v    Someone with a feel for both urban and rural ministry, who will bring together this new benefice

v    A relaxed, modern catholic at ease with an innovative approach to worship but with strong sense of the sacramental

v    A compelling preacher and teacher, able to get the message across to people of different social backgrounds.

v    An inspiring leader with a passion for outreach who will continue to develop shared ministry and work with young people.

Hereford                United Benefice of Ashwell, Hinxworth and Newnham (with Edworth and Caldecote) – Priest-in-Charge

Population: 1,976 (combined)                           Electoral Roll: 233 (combined)

Patron: The Bishop of St Albans (suspended)

The benefice is suspended pending future pastoral reorganisation.  The Diocesan Pastoral Committee has considered the possibility of the benefice becoming a partner in the Baldock Team Ministry.  The new Priest in Charge will concentrate on the needs of the current benefice whilst working in an 'informal cluster' for the time being with colleagues in the Baldock Team Ministry.

The benefice is located in the stunningly beautiful North East corner of Hertfordshire.  It is close to the borders of Bedfordshire to the West and Cambridgeshire to the East.  London is some 42 miles to the south and Cambridge is 20 miles away.  There are regular train services to London Kings Cross and Cambridge.

There are five churches in the Benefice, although the churches at Edworth and Caldecote are declared redundant but with an occasional service in the year.

St Mary's Church Ashwell is a fine, Grade I, church dating from the 14 Century.  There is a 'Friends of St Mary's' who take a substantial responsibility for raising funds for the fabric.  St Nicholas' church Hinxworth dates from the 14 Century with 18 Century restoration.  St Vincent's church Newnham is a 12 Century building and contains interesting brasses and wall paintings.

The three village communities each have a distinctive identity but are committed to working together under the leadership of their parish priest.  Ashwell is a natural centre with shops, school and community facilities.  Housing is a mix of private and local authority.  The church is a focus for concerts, drama and the annual Ashwell Music Festival.  Hinxworth's population mainly works outside the village or commutes to London.   There are some house-based small businesses and several farms.  Newnham is a significant agricultural community and there are several commuters and retired people who live in the village.

Worship is eucharistically centred; vestments and reserved sacrament at Ashwell.  The benefice has a strong musical tradition which is both a particular and a special feature.  Lay people assist in worship reading lessons, leading intercessions and assisting with the distribution of Holy Communion.

The benefice maintains a parish office in Ashwell Rectory.  Expenses are paid in full.  The current Rectory is considered large and is certainly expensive to maintain both for the occupant and for the Diocese.   An active search is underway for a suitable replacement.

This benefice offers:

i                                         strong, supportive and active membership

i                                         a positive attitude towards the church from the community

i                                         good community facilities

i                                         considerable artistic and musical talent

Future priorities include:

i                                         more closer working together

i                                         encouragement for youth and young families

i                                         engagement with local schools

A priest is sought who will:

i                                         be visible in the communities

i                                         give priority to prayer and study

i                                         be closely involved in any future pastoral reorganisation

i                                         encourage the musical tradition across the benefice

i                                         be supportive of children and young people

Electoral Roll – Winsley 122, South Wraxall 89   , Monkton Farleigh 27

The villages within the Benefice, comprising the parishes of Monkton Farleigh, South Wraxall and Winsley, form part of the Diocese of Salisbury and yet are located within a 7-8ml radius of the City of Bath and are therefore within easy access of it’s varied cultural, educational and sporting facilities (incl. the Bath University modern sports complex) as well as those of Bradford on Avon, home of The Wiltshire Music Centre. Travel by car between each village takes between 10 and 15 minutes.

The Benefice is part of the Bradford on Avon Deanery and there is a growing desire to strengthen contact and participation with other Churches

both within the Benefice and the Deanery, particularly those in the Bradford Group, and also other non -Anglican churches in the area.

We are seeking a new Priest in Charge with the spiritual resource and inner personal strength to lead and direct this work within our communities and also to work with us to identify, nurture and guide through selection and training a new generation of priests, readers and lay pastoral assistants.

The house was built in 1983 and provides good family accommodation with four bedrooms one of which has an en suite shower, a bathroom, a lounge, a dining room, a good sized kitchen with separate utility area  and a study/ administration office. There is a pleasant, manageable garden and a separate double garage. The nearest primary school ,Winsley School (C of E) is a short walk from the Rectory while St Laurence School (C of E secondary) is c 1 ½ mls away in Bradford on Avon. There are two independent day schools in Bath and also three independent boarding/day schools each with a differing Christian foundation.

We are looking for  a Priest who will actively engage spiritually and pastorally  both with the worshippers and the wider village communities. Our new Priest will be someone who:-

§       Will provide Bible teaching as a guide to practical daily Christian living

§       Will give spiritual inspiration and guidance to those searching for faith in today’s world

§       Attracts young people and enjoys working with them

§       Is comfortable in churches which give a spiritual home to Christians of all

ages with diverse views

§       Will lead and co-ordinate pastoral care within the Benefice

§       Will encourage our pastoral team and the laity to use their gifts/skills for

God’s work in the parishes

§       Is a ‘team person’ able to work with clergy, readers and laity within the Benefice and with the clergy team within the Deanery

§       Has a heart for the task that awaits and the vision to see strategically and practically beyond

It would be an advantage for the Priest to have first hand experience of working with young people.

HOUSE FOR DUTY

Chichester             St Michael and All Angels, Withyham with All Saints, Blackham

We are looking for a non-stipendiary, house for duty, Priest-in-Charge.

We are a flourishing Church community with an encouragingly large complement of

youngish parents, who bring their children to both family and "all age services". Our services

attract many worshippers from nearby towns and villages.

We look for a Priest with parochial and pastoral experience, which we regard as important

in this geographically strung out parish. We need one who will represent and encourage a

true sense of community and fellowship. Pastoral duties outside the Church will be as

important as priestly duties within.

Our style of worship at Withyham and Blackham is "middle of the road". It is founded

upon the Book of Common Prayer and the more traditional aspects of "Common Worship", although our family services follow a more modem pattern. We look for an incumbent who will maintain and uphold our tradition of worship.

It is important to retain and enhance the interest in the Church of the children upon whom

our family services pivot as they move into adolescence and young adulthood. We need a

Priest who will work towards achieving this objective.

Withyham is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty in East Sussex, close to the

Ashdown Forest and some six miles west of Tunbridge Wells. The Georgian rectory is

adjacent to St Michael’s church.
