INCUMBENCIES
St Eds and Ips Incumbent - Aldham, Elmsett, Hintlesham
with Chattisham and Kersey
A warm welcome awaits you in our picturesque rural benefice of four small parishes near to Constable Country in South Suffolk. Each village has a strong sense of community with good will and support for the churches and thriving VCP primary schools in three of the parishes. Sunday services are based mainly on Common Worship and each parish has an informal monthly Family service with the laity involved in planning and leading it.
A growing sense of identity is developing within the recently formed benefice with quarterly benefice services and leaders’ meetings with the Rector; Lay Ministry training is also undertaken jointly.
You will be supported in your ministry by the laity and Lay Ministry teams in each parish. The main challenge is for mission to young families, encouraging them to become full members of the worshipping congregations. There is also a need for you to develop and grow the Lay Ministry Teams in each parish to help you in pastoral work and leading worship.
What the benefice is looking for in a new incumbent
We look forward to welcoming a Rector with vision and faith who:

St Eds and Ips Incumbency - The Mid Loes Benefice
The new Benefice of Mid Loes brings together the Benefices of Earl Soham and Charsfield, both of which had half-time clergy. The appointment will be made in active collaboration with the Patrons.
There is a good relationship between and within the parishes, with good support for each other's village and church activities. We have been working together, holding joint benefices services and a joint Bible Study Group during the past year in preparation for our new status as the Mid Loes Benefice.
The benefice is situated in a quiet part of Suffolk; the historic towns of Woodbridge and Framlingham are the nearest market towns. It is only a few miles to the Suffolk Heritage Coast. The County town of Ipswich with the Diocesan Offices and Centre is half an hour's drive away. Bury St. Edmunds with our Cathedral is reached within the hour. Constable country, Cambridge, Norwich, and Colchester are all within easy travelling distance. London is about an hour away by train from Ipswich.
The villages all have scattered housing, though some have a definite centre - most obviously Charsfield and Earl Soham. There are a number of properties which are second homes. These are essentially rural communities with some farms providing limited employment, people who work locally are self-employed tradesmen or farm workers. The majority of people travel to work in surrounding market towns, with some going to Ipswich and a number commuting to London. Residents in these communities are engaged in a wide range of employment from blue collar to Chief Executives.
There are two schools in the benefice. Charsfield Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School and Earl Soham Community Primary School. The benefice is served by three High Schools each with a defined catchment area. Pupils transfer at age 11. All three High Schools have achieved Specialist Status and are highly regarded, both locally and nationally - where they feature prominently in statistics indicating success.
The new Benefice will have one Ordained Local Minister, who is presently in training, and two Readers. Some of the parishes have commissioned Lay Elders. The newly arrived Earl Soham Baptist Church Pastor is looking to work ecumenically in the new Mid Loes benefice. There are some joint services with the Baptist Chapel in Charsfield (Remembrance Sunday, Carol Services and Rogation). Roman Catholics worship in either Framlingham or Woodbridge.

Worcester Vicar - St Mark Pensnett
If you seek a base to pursue the Faithful Cities agenda in a tough urban environment with a cohesive liberal Catholic congregational life, strong relations with the Methodist Church and a newly refurbished church, this may be your next sphere of ministry. The congregation has worked immensely well through a period following the death of their incumbent last May, and has brought to fruition the refurbishment of the Church and a period of worshipping in Bromley Methodist Chapel. There is a high level of commitment which will engage with a challenging and rewarding task. The Deanery of Kingswinford has embraced a programme of change, and the diocese’s mission statement declares our aim to be church for those who are not, or are not yet, our members.

PRIEST-IN-CHARGE
The Parishes of Carbis Bay and Lelant are situated on the left hand side of the Hayle estuary in the Diocese of Truro. The combined population is about 5,000 and there are two church communities, each with electoral rolls of about a hundred. There is a modern vicarage adjacent to St. Anta’s Church in Carbis Bay
The chief industry of the area is tourism, and so employment and visitor numbers tend to be seasonal. However, there is an expansion in house building in the area to cater for an increase in population generally as well as to attempt to tackle the single most pressing social issue of the times, the rising prices in housing. There is a Church school in the area and our links with this are very highly valued.
Our worshipping traditions reflect our varied backgrounds .The Bible is central to our prayer and worship, and we also light candles and priests wear vestments for liturgical celebrations. If anything St. Uny, Lelant tends to be slightly more traditional than St. Anta, Carbis Bay. Both churches have informal acts of worship on a monthly basis to attract those who are more unfamiliar with traditional patterns of worship.
The Benefice has undertaken Alpha courses, and this has encouraged Bible study house groups within both parishes. Sadly a good youth and children’s ministry has declined in recent years and we would hope for a revival in this. We do, though, have a thriving Mothers’ Union, a good team of bell-ringers (at St. Anta) and we take very seriously our commitments to social outreach, with both churches involved heavily in art, craft and flower exhibitions and other community projects. We also value highly our ecumenical links with our sister churches, and we are keen participants in deanery and diocesan events.
Perhaps the most important development that will take place in the area for the next few years is the clustering of Carbis Bay and Lelant with the neighbouring parishes of St. Ives, Halsetown, Zennor and Towednack. This is in response to the Bishop of Truro’s People of God initiative in which we are trying, as a Diocese, to encourage neighbouring parishes to co-operate with each other in terms of ministry and outreach. It is expected that the new priest at Carbis Bay and Lelant will co-operate fully in this process, which will see the offering of all licensed ministers, ordained and non-ordained, operating across a much wider area than might be expected in a typical parish setting. The Diocese believes that the establishment of new patterns of ministry will provide a challenging and exciting opportunity for any priest considering a move to the area.
