An all-day programme of talks, debates and workshops about how the current international situation affects women's lives and what we can do to help.

Programme:
10-10.45 am: *Women in Iraq - Worse off under Saddam or the USA?* Sana Al-Khayyat, an Iraqi woman living in the UK, is associated with Act Together, a group of UK-based Iraqi and non-Iraqi women opposed to war, sanctions and the occupation of Iraq. She is the author of Honour and Shame: Women in Modern Iraq, and has recently returned from a visit to Iraq. She will talk about how the invasion and occupation has affected women. Plus opportunity for questions and discussions.
11.15-12 noon: *Women In Palestine.* A Palestinian woman talks about how the current situation affects women and what they are doing about it. Opportunity for questions and discussions.
12-1.30pm: *Lunch*: Arabic and Western buffet prepared/served by men of the Peace and Justice Group. PLUS a chance for everyone to join in Dances of Universal Peace with dance leader Deborah Green.
1.30-3pm: *Women-only workshop: How Different are Muslim Women's Lives?*
An opportunity to talk with two Muslim women from Exeter about how Muslim women are
perceived in the UK today, including misconceptions about their lives
and the veil.
Also an opportunity to try on the headscarf, or ‘hijab’,
worn by many Muslim women, to see how it feels for yourself.
3 pm-4pm: *What Can We Do?* A panel discussion with women who have taken action to further the cause of peace. Speakers: Lisa Saffron from Jews for Justice who has taken part in projects in Israel and Palestine, focussing on the value of compassionate listening. Tricia Goddard of Women to Women for Peace, who will be talking about visiting Palestine. Margaret Jones is one of the ‘Fairford Five’ who broke into Fairford RAF base and tried to disable B52 bombers bound for Iraq. The case subsequently went to the House of Lords.
Entry to the event is free, open to both men and women (except the women-only workshop) and there will be a creche offering children's activities staffed by police-checked experienced childcarers - but please *let us know in advance if you are bringing children so we know how many childcarers to arrange*.
