New Years Eve - 2001
Camping on Grindslow Knoll - Kinder Scout - Peak District Dark Peak.
Clare, Andy Longyear, Jon and Janice Holdich and myself decided to see the New year in from Kinder Scout. As it happened, the weather was wintry - a good six to eight inches of snow had fallen in the previous couple of days following a long period of frost. By New Year, the temperature was between -10 and -15 degrees C.

<< Andy in his Bivvy Bag - comfy - but tedious to get in and out of. A 4 season sleeping bag provided him with an excellent nights' sleep. He has a therma-a-rest under the Goretex bivvy bag.

The evening sky as we were >> heading up the hill was a deep golden hue.

<< Tony at about 1.00am after we spent ages watching the celebration fireworks for a distance of about 40 miles.

Calre and Janice >> heading up the hill and trying to take picture of the valley.

Here, the early >> moon risen above the cairn on Grindslow Knoll. This is actually a slight graphic fiddle to enhance the moon.

<< Left to Right - Janice, Andy Jon and Clare heading down on New Year's Day after breaking camp and looking forward to a greasy breakfst at Grindleford Cafe.

The day was beautiful - deep blue skies - very cold and crystal clear. visibility was exceptional with Riber Castle (near matlock) visible in the east. It is about 25-30 miles away.

New Year is generally spent quietly as Clare (being a nurse) tends to work. So this year we decided to do someting a bit different and a damn sight more fun than getting pissed in a crowded pub.

We took wine and malt whiskey with us for celebrationary purposes as well as lots of grub.

Tents: Terra Nova Solar 2 and Terra Nova Solar 1. The Bivvy Bag of Andy's was a Mountain Range Goretex bivvy bag.
