A deliberately contrasted image to enhance the mood of the picture. Photoshop is the tool of choice.

Okay - so it isn't anything like mars. The sky was taken near my house. The rest of the picture was my mate Kieron and me on our annual two day hike. Picture near the Crow Stones in the Dark Peak.

Second Annual Two day hike in the Peak. Here my mate Steve demonstrates his ability to obtain money from unlikely places... he is VERY good at that as his colleagues will testify :))
The broomstick leaning against the house can be seen refracted in the icicles melting from the leaf in the early weak sunshine.
