We decided to go on a bike tour of Iceland in June 2001. Clare (my wife), her brother Jon (who'd been there several times before) and me.
We'd bought bikes because the foot and mouth crisis meant we couldn't go walking.

If you ever get the chance - go and see Iceland. It's so wonderfully barren, lonely, wild and yet relatively safe... but costly!! if you use traditional transport and accomodation.
