Page 2.  Altrincham posses a Town Hall, and the present mayor, Mr Henry Balshaw, is an auctioneer of High street.

Page 3.  About 1700 some land was left to the town "for better defraying the charges and expenses for which the Mayor and his successors are likely to be at."  In 1700 the income was £5.  By 1884 this had risen to about £300.  [Reading between the lines, the way that this money was squandered every year was a cause of some ill-feeling in the town.  This was particularly true of the annual ball held by the mayor at great expense. - NHB.]

Construction of a public cemetry was expected soon.
