What is the origin of the name "Balshaw"?

Balshaw, Belshaw and Bolshaw.

Misc. early references to the name "Balshaw".

Balshaws on the IGI in Cheshire (1992) as an Acrobat file. None of them are related to me in any way as far as I know.

Balshaw's School, Leyland, Lancashire, founded by Richard Balshaw 1725 to 1811.

The following inscription was seen in the graveyard at Goosnargh, Lancs.

Madge Balshaw, Loving wife of Thomas Balshaw Died August 18th 1943  Aged 50 years.  Also Husband, Thomas Henry Balshaw, Born 15 August 1894, Died 12 April 1965

Present Day

Iain Balshaw seems to be a famous rugby player. I think he plays for Bath and England. Not being very interested in sport I haven't followed his career in detail and don't know anything about his ancestry.
