Moulin de Chaves is a retreat centre immersed in nature, in the Dordogne region of south west France. It is situated just outside the village of Cubjac, 20 minutes drive from Périgueux. The centre is on the banks of the river Auvézère, and keeps its original name of the water mill built here in the 19th C. |
The Moulin, set in 4 acres of grounds, has a calm, meditative atmosphere, with its gardens, bamboo groves, a beautiful koi carp pond and terraces overlooking the river. |
Yoga will take place in the secluded Japanese style meditation hall, surrounded by trees. There will be two yoga sessions each day, as well as early morning meditation and pranayama. |
There are single and shared rooms. You can also choose to bring a tent and camp by the river in the grounds of the centre. |
Food is vegetarian and mostly organic. Breakfast, lunch and evening meal will be in the light, spacious dining room which also has a sitting area with a good selection of books on spiritual matters. |
There are nearby woods. A few minutes walk takes you into the village where there are cafes, a boulangerie and other shops. There you can also hire bicycles and arranges canoe trips. |
You can swim in the river Auvézère from the grounds of the Moulin or by the bridge in the village. |
Besides the many châteaux, this area of Dordogne has picturesque historic towns such as Sarlat, Brantôme and nearby Périgueux with its byzantine-style cathedral. What gives Périgueux its particular appeal is the medieval and renaissance core with its maze of cobbled narrow alleyways and squares. Not far away are the prehistoric caves of Lascaux. |
From UK you can either fly or take a train.
