Upon Attending The Moon's Renewal
I was invited, with many others, by The Fellowship Of The Full Moon to attend a festival and celebration which has previously been held in private by the followers of the moon, the worshippers of Luna.
As a contribution to the spirit of peace amongst those who attend The Gathering, they wished to make a gesture and invite all who would attend in peace.
I travelled to the event with some others of my group. As the ritual circle nearest to the Temple Of The Moon was alleged to be under a number of feet of water at that time, we traveled by the walking system. With me were Wolfgar Stone-Dreamer (High Incantor), Gunnar Smooth-Tongue and Heinreich von Alfeld (prime charioteer and fooler-with-chaos-stars).
We were most pleased to meet a patrol of The Fellowship on our way, as it was just at that time that a horde of Unliving attacked us. The patrol defended us most admirabley. They were apparently part of several Fellowship groups who were abroad that day on ..... a private matter.
After helping heal those who were wounded, including our own Heinreich, we carried on to the site of the festival with no further events.
The main ceremony itself, and associated revelry, took place in a large hall, mighty as a barn, with sturdy stone walls atopped by a great vaulted wooden roof. Most of us were most pleased to see that Lord Wolf our great ruler and the Lady Tigre were able to attend. Also there were notables such as Floris Brand and Joshua MacTay, Cyngelis and Lysandra, Jinx the most learned Sage and Attila The Nun, who is to oversee The Sacred Council for a time.
Aleda, the seeress and Enoch, the head ritualist, greated us all from the great balcony with speaches of welcome. Lord Wolf thanked them for us all. Most of those attending were Wolves, not suprisingly.
The hall was decorated with many emblems of Luna and The Fellowship. A great spread of food was laid on, and there was much to drink.
Sadly, Mayhem the Chaos Warrior was also in attendance. While I heard of no actual trouble accorded to him, his subtle disguises made to unnerve and entrap some simple folk.
A focal point of the event was marked by the seerees and head ritualist leading a large body of acolytes to the altar to Luna. After some ceremony, a large bottle was shown, said to contain a drink blessed by Luna, and which my bring visions of the future or the past to any who would drink from it.
Certain unliving dared to assault the premises during the event. A gang of the simpler sort were easily repulsed, but someone was so inept as to actually invite in some poor stranger with somewhat distended fangs! I don't know to what extent such as vampyres _do_ need to be invited to cross the threshold, but certainly the retort; "Yes mate, come on in for a bite and a drink" is NOT good policy!
Other strange phantasmal being were reported abroad, mostly respresenting the old 'Norse pantheon' - powerful ancestors of many generations gone. They set puzzles for various groups with promises of rewards for those who would solve them [ Dear Loki, please talk to Gunnar *before* he drinks so much mead in future. Thankyou ]
And what would a society event be these days without some pontification by a minion of the Evil High Lord. We were graced by a minion, who informed us that we were all doomed and his Master would have our souls in the afterlife. We were so worried we chanted "WOLF!" at him until he went away.
At the end of the evening, many of us boarded a variety of chariots great and small, to wend our way to our assorted local accomodations. I have heard of no great problems befalling any that night, although, for example, we had an erratic trip, Wolfgar having to rein in the coach a number of times for Gunnar to call out to a selection of ancestors...... There's a lot of mead in a horn, or two!
