To make up the smock proceed as follows:-

1. Hem around neck slit and opening, run gathering thread round the neck edge. Fold the neck band in half lengthways and stitch across the ends. Turn it the right way out. Draw up the gathers around the edge of the neck so that it fits the band. With the right sides together stitch one edge of the band round neck edge. Turn the other edge of the band over and sew it down on the inside to enclose the raw edges.
2. Sew the gores to the body (stitching the long edge to the body of the smock).
3. Stitch the gussets to one edge of the sleeve.
4. Stitch the underarm seam incorporating the gusset.
5. Join the ends of the wrist bands to make circles. Gather sleeve ends and draw up to fit the bands. With right sides together stitch one edge of the band to sleeve end. Fold the other edge over and stitch it down to enclose the raw edges.
6. Sew up the side seams leaving enough room to fit the arms in.
7. Stitch sleeves to body.
8. Hem the bottom edge.
