The Bargate is the northern entrance to the old, walled, medieval town of Southampton. The road through the gate lead to London, part of which followed the old Roman road. This was the main entrance to the city in the 12th century. |

The lighting scheme that DFA have designed for the Bargate incorporates buried uplighters in the paving surrounding the monument, which wash and accent different features of the elevations.
