Photographic information

Image details.

Most of the photographs on this website were taken using colour transparency film. Mostly I used Fuji Provia 100F, which I find gives me the ability to react to what ever turns up on the day. I also use a body loaded with Fuji Velvia 50 which works well on poor light days and particularly in cover in woods.

The film is processed and mounted by Peak Imaging. I then select the slides I want to use and scan them on a Dimage Scan Elite 5400 for editing on my computer. I shoot about 40 rolls of film a year, which by most standards is pretty low. But like many people time spent making pictures is a luxury that has to be fitted around everything else.

I have now though gone digital and all future additions to the site will be from RAW files.

Camera equipment.

My main camera body was a Canon T90 and I also have a Canon A1 loaded with an alternative film speed. As you've probably noticed, my favourite lens was a Canon 20mm f2.8 wide angle. I also used a Tokina 80-200mm f2.8 telephoto and a Canon 50mm f3.5 macro lenses. A Tokina 2x converter and a Canon 300TL flashgun completed the setup.

I use a set of neutral density grads from Hitech mounted in a Cokin Z-Pro holder. The only other filter I use being a circular polariser.

All of this is supported by a Manfrotto 055pro tripod with a large ball head.

However I have now at last joined the digital revolution. I have recently bought a Canon 1ds mkI with a Canon 17-40mm L series zoom and a Tokina 100mm macro lens. So now I am discovering the delights of RAW files, memory cards and battery charging. Only time will tell. Within the site I won't be distinguishing between digital and film images, I'll leave it up to you to guess.

Photographic holidays.

There are now several companies running photographic holidays in this area and all would give an excellent introduction to the Hebrides in the company of a like minded group of people. Two companies that I have personal knowledge of and can highly recommend are Light and Land and Colin Prior.
