Cattle Egret

An elusive BLYTH'S REED WARBLER was found on Lowestoft North Denes on the 30th, and three more YELLOW-BROWED WARBLERS were found the same day.

Two YELLOW-BROWED WARBLERS were found on the 27th, one on Lowestoft North Denes and one in Sparrows Nest Park, and a FIRECREST was in Arnold's Walk.

A BARRED WARBLER was found in the Birdseye car park bushes, north of Ness Point, on the 26th.

The Carlton Marshes CATTLE EGRET was still present on the 29th at least.

CATTLE EGRET Bubulcus ibis
The
adult was still at Carlton Marshes on the 1st to 4th, and again on the 7th, and now appears to be roosting on site at Whitecast Marsh rather than heading to Leathes Ham. It was present again on the evening of the 14th, and through to the 29th at least was often with white cattle near the river just west of the reserve.

The other adult was present again along Breydon South Wall on the 4th and again on the 14th to 22nd at least.



SPOONBILL Platalea leucorodia
On the 22nd at 07:40 a flock of nine flew south over Sparrows Nest Park following the line of the cliff. They were later seen passing offshore at Minsmere, Slaughden and Felixstowe in Suffolk and then Holland Haven in Essex.

A very elusive, but frequently vocal, individual was found in the brambles and bracken just north of the Denes Oval on Lowestoft North Denes on the 30th.

BARRED WARBLER Sylvia nisoria
A juvenile was in the bushes along the River Hundred at Kessingland/Benacre Sluice on the 1st to 3rd. A different individual had been seen at nearby Beach Farm, Benacre the day before.


Another juvenile/first winter was found in the Birdseye factory car park north of Ness Point on the 26th.

BOOTED WARBLER Iduna caligata
One was discovered in dense Tamarisks by the sea wall at the north end of the Birdseye factory on Lowestoft North Denes on the morning of the 6th and remained there throughout the day, though it was mostly fairly elusive.

It was still present on the 7th and was rather more showy than the previous day, particularly in the morning.

The first two of the autumn were found on the 27th, one spent the day chasing Chiffchaffs out of its favoured tree on Gunton Cliff on Lowestoft North Denes, and the other was seen with a tit flock in Sparrows Nest Park.
